Testimonials

Kiuna is not just a school where I learned about art, psychology, politics, economics and anthropology. I have learned much more there. I am proud to be what I am, and this has enabled me to hold my head up high and say it loud and clear.

Annick Ottawa, Atikamekw from Manawan

Kiuna has made me more confident in myself and in my future and that of our people I have been allowed to dream, express myself, grow, and see that the world is a bigger place than it seemed to be before.

Lucie Martin, Innu from Unamen-Shipu

The courses there draw on First Nations culture and it was easy to integrate the college. I felt at home.

Terry-Randy Awashish, Atikamekw from Opitciwan

Throughout my two years at Kiuna I have made many friends and made great memories. Attending Kiuna has really opened up my mind and prepared me for the world.

Iohsennóntion Lahache, Mohawk from Kahnawake

I was very surprised at how sociable the students and teachers are at Kiuna, offering me invaluable support to help make my transition from high school to CEGEP easier

Raphaëlle O’Bomsawin, Abenaki from Odanak

Kiuna has enabled me to spread my wings and fly as a young First Nations adult. Kiuna will be where future generations will come to learn to be proud of their roots.

Jimmy-Angel Bossum, Innu from Mashteuiatsh

I made friends who I have shared memories that I will carry with me for a long time, and learned a lot of valuable information; not only about my studies and academic career, but about myself, as an individual, as well.

Kelly Stacey, Mohawk fromKahnawake

When I graduate I will take with me the openness I gained from Kiuna. I found pride in this school for giving Indigenous youth the opportunity to learn about who they are and where they come from.

Education was used to carry out cultural genocide; education can also be used to achieve reconciliation.

Prudence Hannis, Kiuna’s associate director

Kiuna participates in First Nations reconciliation with the education system by restoring school to its role of socializing and transmitting knowledge, whose rationale, we often forget, is based on cultural ownership and affirmation.
