Admissions and How to Apply to Kiuna

Before applying for admission, make sure you have:

  • The names of the schools you attended.
  • Your permanent code, if one was issued to you by Quebec’s Ministry of Education. (It is usually in the top right-hand corner of your report card. Your school’s registrar’s office also has your number on file.)
  • A credit card (VISA or MasterCard) if you want to pay the $30 processing fee right away.

Make your program selection and make sure you are eligible.

Fill out the online application form available on the SRAM website and follow the instructions. Select Kiuna (Centre d’études collégiales des Premières Nations).

Shortly after receiving your application, the SRAM sends it to the partner CEGEP. Each CEGEP examines its applications and forwards its decision to the applicants.

Registration Fee

Upon acceptance, a $153 registration fee will be charged. Once this fee has been paid, you will be able to access your Omnivox account and see your timetable.

Timetable

A timetable is prepared for all admitted applicants who have paid their registration fee and have made their course selection.

Registration

Before the start of the semester, on the date indicated in the school calendar, you need to register and pick up your timetable. At that time, you will be invited to take part in Kiuna’s orientation activities.

You can still enroll at Kiuna even if the SRAM deadline has passed.

I graduated from high school a few years ago, but did not go on to the post-secondary level. Is it too late for me?
No, it is never too late to further your education.
Can I transfer to Kiuna if I am already enrolled in another college?
Yes, you have two possibilities:

  1. If you have not already paid your tuition fees and you have not already made your course selection, all you have to do is fill out an application form at Kiuna Institution.
  2. If your registration fees have already been paid and your courses selected, contact us! We will conduct the appropriate follow-up on your case.
Can previously obtained credits be transferred?
Some credits may be transferable. The academic advisor analyzes each case, and grants credit recognition for all possible courses in accordance with Quebec’s College Education Regulations. However, some program-specific courses may not be eligible for credit recognition.
Is student housing available?
Yes, Kiuna has student housing.
I have a family. Can I find an apartment big enough for us?
Kiuna has family housing units for students with children and keeps an up-to-date list of apartments for rent in Odanak and the surrounding area.
How many hours of instruction are given each week?
It depends on the program. For example, the Social Science program has an average of 20 hours per week while the Springboard to a DCS has around 15.

Will my courses be equivalent to the ones offered in other CEGEPs?
Yes. At the end of the program, you will receive a DEC that will be equivalent to any other DEC awarded by any other college in Quebec.
What will my options be after I graduate?
The skills you acquire at Kiuna are equivalent to the ones gained by students enrolled in social science programs offered in any other college in Quebec. That means that you can enroll in a variety of undergraduate programs.

What makes Kiuna’s programs unique?
Kiuna’s programs have been developed in collaboration with First Nations. They stand out because of their educational approach, and the contemporary issues they address relating to the First Nations of Quebec, Canada and North America.
Do students have access to a transportation service?

A local shuttle service is available as well as a shuttle from Trois-Rivières to Odanak but Kiuna vigorously promotes carpooling among its students who drive to school.

Will I be able to access health services in Odanak?
Since health services in First Nations communities are normally restricted to community members, you may have to go to the local community service centre (CLSC). Kiuna’s staff will be able to guide you.
